Description
For more than 2000 years, people have fed oats to horses. The Romans fed oats to their horses to give them extra energy for hard work. Unlike wheat, barley or corn, the starch that oats contain is easier to digest.
Pavo uses 2 different types of oats in their products: white oats and black oats. The oats Pavo uses are purified and dehulled because oats that have husks can irritate the digestive tract. Dehusked oats are easier to digest.
Pavo uses oats from Belgium and northern France and sells dehumidified, white and black oats as 100% grains. White oats are also available as oat flakes.
Oats can be used as a fast source of energy for sport horses. We recommend feeding 1-2 kg a day (max 1 kg per meal). Oats, however, have a low calcium/phosphorus ratio. If you feed your horse up to 1 kg of oats a day, you do not need to adjust the ration. If you feed your horse 2 kg or more oats during the day, the feed should be supplemented with calcium.
