Description

Cough is a symptom of irritation or respiratory disease. Sensitive horses experience respiratory problems if they are exposed to dusty hay or too little fresh air in the stable. The causes of coughs are diverse and range from mechanical irritation (food particles, dust, dry air) to allergies (histamines), thermal or chemical stimuli (cold, excess ammonia) to infectious diseases of viral or bacterial origin. In most cases, two causes come together, for example an infection caused by unfavourable living conditions.
To keep the respiratory system healthy, the body has a kind of self-cleaning mechanism in the mucous membranes, in which mucus is continuously formed. This is called "pulmonary mucociliary clearance". If a horse falls ill, the mucous membranes become irritated. The inflammation increases the mucus or changes its consistency. This means that more sputum is created or the mucus becomes tough and remains in the airways, which can lead to breathing problems. Spastic reactions are also possible. Your vet can give you more information after examining your horse.
Plant substances are a traditional cure for acute and chronic respiratory problems. Plants frequently used to treat these issues include thyme, liquorice and sage. It makes sense to support your horse's diet with nutrient-rich, mucosal herbs that are rich in essential oils and terpenes. These herbs include: anise, fennel and fenugreek seeds, Icelandic moss, borage, cowslips, primrose and lesser burnet and many more.
No. 6 Alpine Freshness - a product with history
This herbal blend has a long history. Felix Mayer, a homeopath from Munich, shared his great-grandfather's recipe to create this product. His great grandpa was a veterinarian in Vienna. Alpine Freshness supplies herbs that enrich horses diets with nutrients that are less common in nature in the cold season than in summer. This includes terpenes made from special herbs.
Terpenes belong to the phytochemical family. Terpenes are fat-soluble and are lipids in the broadest sense. They are best known for their antimicrobial effects. Many terpenes smell very pleasant and are therefore used as a component of essential oils.
Feeding recommendation:
- Feed 10 to 20 g daily (1 to 2 measuring spoons full), correspondingly less for ponies and small horses

I love the fresh smell
Rated with 4 out of 5 stars.
Wonderful quality herbal mixture. However I cannot say that it made much difference to the 2 of my horses that used it.
